LBO: The (short) Story So Far

LBO: The (short) Story So Far

Tomorrow, will be exactly three months old, or at least the public version will be. However, if we’re counting from the day the LBO idea was first conceived, we’ve already passed the one year mark on our exciting, arduous journey of making our LBO dream a reality.

Starting with a team of two in early August of 2016 (which became a team of three by early October) we quickly began fleshing out our idea and sharing it with everyone we knew who might be able to give us some advice. Before we began pumping our time and money into this venture, we had to have an answer to the central question: could we make this idea work?

As far as we could tell, nothing quite like this had been tried before. There are places you can get great discounts on games on the web, for sure, but nowhere else is anyone trying to develop a method of crowd-pricing for the purposes of getting you an awesome deal AND getting developers a fair share for their games.

But this still left us wondering: what about us? We knew the idea was novel. We knew that someone could make it work. Was that someone us?

There was only one way to find out. We got to work staking out our place on the web: buying a domain, building a test site, and inviting our friends to check it out. By January, we knew we were sticking with this for the long term, and LBO Technologies, LLC. was officially formed!

The next few months flew by. It was all getting the site up and running (learning what programming we could as fast as possible) and trying to get in front of developers and publishers (making those tough cold calls and emails). In the end, we got some contracts signed with wonderful partners and we’re ready to open things up to the public.

And this mostly brings us up to the present day. We’re still chugging along with developing features for the site and getting developers/publishers on board with our platform. It’s a slow process, but one that we’re happy to keep plugging away at!

If you’ve somehow found yourself here reading this, we hope you enjoy the store, blog, and this short story of our history so far. Thanks for reading!

P.S. I’d like to add a huge shout out to all of our partners that have signed up with us and helped us get to where we are today: KISS Ltd, tinyBuild, Digerati Distribution, PQube, Frogmind, Curve Digital, and Rising Star Games. We couldn’t have gotten this far without you!
